The operation of Enemalta’s high voltage network is centrally managed in the control room in Marsa.

The control room is manned 24×7 by engineers who coordinate with field engineers and technicians responsible with the maintenance of distribution network in various localities.

The SCADA system provides the control room engineers with complete visibility of the high voltage network and are immediately alerted with any developed faults. The control room engineers will then take the necessary steps to isolate the faulty area so that the repairs may be safely conducted while ensuring minimal outage for the impacted customers.

This is achieved by deactivating only the necessary transformers and feeders while utilizing alternate network routes to ensure that electricity is provided by in the shortest time possible.

Technical analysis conducted within the Enemalta control room serve to identify the improvements required to cope with the increase in energy demand and implement these in the most efficient way.
