Our environmental commitment2023-08-28T12:39:47+02:00

We are committed to an ongoing review and optimisation of our operations to reduce the negative environmental impacts of our electricity generation and distribution services.

Our environment management system is regularly reviewed by international auditors to maintain the requirements of the prestigious ISO14001:2015 certification.

Our electricity generation and distribution operations are governed by a strict environmental management system (EMS). This system ensures that we adopt international best practices in environmental protection and pollution control, and to continually review our operations to further reduce our impact on the environment.

In August 2011, our EMS was awarded the internationally acclaimed ISO 14001 certification by Certiquality S.r.l. The EMS is annually reviewed, to ensure it continues to achieve its environmental objectives, and every three years, Enemalta must seek recertification following a thorough examination of all EMS procedures and practices. Enemalta was thereafter recertified by Bureau Veritas Hellas A. E. in 2014, 2017, 2020 and by SGS Italia S.p.A. in 2023.

Our Company complies with the applicable European Union environmental regulations, including the Large Combustion Plant Directive (LCP), the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control Directive (IPPC) as well as other waste management and greenhouse gases legislation.
