Trainees (Mechanical and Electrical streams)
Duties and eligibility will vary depending on the studies undertaken, as shown below. The duties will be in line with the course currently being studied/has been studied and such a traineeship will give the selected candidates the opportunities to gain industry practice and experience, when an official apprenticeship is not available:
1.Trainee (Operator / Industrial Electronics Technician)
a.Summary of duties
The Purpose of the Trainee (Operator / Industrial Electronics Technician) is to acquire experience within the Control and Instrumentation Section and the Operations Sections. The Trainee (Operator/Industrial Electronics Technician) may be assigned on work related to the course s/he is undertaking.
Operator duties will include assisting Power Plant Systems Operators in operations procedures, fault root cause analysis, monitoring and recording activities, etc.
Industrial Electronics Technician duties will include assisting the Power Plant Control and Instrumentation Technicians in troubleshooting, maintenance, repairs, testing and calibrations of electronic equipment, etc.
b.Eligibility Criteria
Candidates who are currently studying*/have studied courses related to Industrial Electronics at MQF Level 4.
* candidates shall be in the last year of their course and are not following an apprenticeship through the educational institution
2.Trainee (Operator / Electrical Technician)
a.Summary of duties
The Purpose of the Trainee (Operator / Electrical Technician) is to acquire experience within the Electrical and Operations Sections. The Trainee (Operator/ Electrical Technician) may be assigned on work related to the course s/he is undertaking.
Operator duties will include assisting Power Plant Systems Operators in operations procedures, fault root cause analysis, monitoring and recording activities, etc.
Electrical Technician duties will include assisting the Senior/Power Plant Electrical Technicians in troubleshooting, maintenance, repairs, testing and calibrations of electrical equipment, etc. as well as assisting in assembly and installation works in relation to electrical works.
b.Eligibility Criteria
Candidates who are currently studying*/have studied courses related to Electrical Engineering at MQF Level 4.
* candidates shall be in the last year of their course and are not following an apprenticeship through the educational institution
3.Trainee (Operator / Mechanical Technician)
a.Summary of duties
The Purpose of the Trainee (Operator / Mechanical Technician) is to acquire experience within the Mechanical and Operations Sections. The Trainee (Operator/ Mechanical Technician) may be assigned on work related to the course s/he is undertaking.
Operator duties will include assisting Power Plant Systems Operators in operations procedures, fault root cause analysis, monitoring and recording activities, etc.
Mechanical Technician duties will include assisting the Senior/Power Plant Mechanical Technicians in all maintenance work associated with major rotating plant with a focus on Turbo-Alternators, Hydraulic Control Systems and reciprocating engines in accordance with prescribed manuals, records, technical drawings, etc. as well as fabrication works.
b.Eligibility Criteria
Candidates who are currently studying*/have studied any of the courses related to:
– Mechanical Engineering at MQF Level 4
– Operations and Maintenance at MQF Level 4
– Marine Engineering at MQF Level 4
* candidates shall be in the last year of their course and are not following an apprenticeship through the educational institution
4.Trainee (Welding and Fabrication Technician)
a.Summary of duties
The Purpose of the Trainee (Welding and Fabrication Technician) is to acquire experience within the Mechanical Section. The Trainee (Welding and Fabrication Technician) may be assigned on work related to the course s/he is undertaking. S/he shall assist in works associated with the fabrication involved in joining metals or thermoplastics through coalescence, and other ancillary works.
b.Eligibility Criteria
Candidates who are currently studying*/have studied any of the courses related to Welding and Fabrication at MQF Level 4.
* candidates shall be in the last year of their course and are not following an apprenticeship through the educational institution
5.Trainee (Advanced Scaffolder)
a.Summary of duties
The Purpose of the Trainee (Advanced Scaffolder) is to acquire experience within the Mechanical Section. The Trainee (Advanced Scaffolder) may be assigned on work related to the course s/he is undertaking which include assisting Advanced/Scaffolder in the inspection of scaffolding, erection and dismantling of scaffolding, maintenance of scaffolding, etc.
b.Eligibility Criteria
Candidates who are currently studying*/have studied any of the courses related to Advanced Scaffolding.
