Power Plant Mechanical Technician<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Position Purpose<\/strong><\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
The Purpose of the designation of Power Plant Mechanical Technician is to carry out complex and sensitive maintenance, repair and overhaul works as assigned by the Principal Power Plant Maintenance Officer – Mechanical.  The Power Plant Mechanical Technician may be assigned on work related to his job description on any plant operated by Enemalta, other plants, as well as any related sub-contracted work from third parties as outlined in the principles of the performance\/collective agreement. The Power Plant Mechanical Technician shall at all times perform his work in accordance and in compliance with Health and Safety Legislation as well as Health & Safety policies as may be issued by International Energy Service Centre Limited (hereinafter referred to as the \u201cCompany\u201d or \u201cIESC\u201d) from time to time.<\/div>\n

2. Roles and Responsibilities<\/strong><\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1 Technical<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.1 Planning and Design<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
The Power Plant Mechanical Technician shall be responsible for planning his own work whilst ensuring that this conforms to the specifications outlined by the Power Plant Team Leader – Mechanical. More specifically, the Power Plant Mechanical Technician shall be required to:<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.1.1 Analyse engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout and processes involved to carry out his duties; <\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.1.2 Identify and determining required equipment, materials and method to be used on each specific fitting job;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.1.3 Drive light vehicles;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.1.40 Carry out purchasing duties including looking for parts, getting quotations and collecting items;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.1.5 Develop templates, jigs and other work aids to hold and align parts;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.1.6 Measure and plan of all replacement parts;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.2 Fault Identification and Reporting<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.2.1 Timely identification and resolutions of faults as part of an emergency maintenance programme;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.2.2 Engaging into corrective maintenance through the identification of faults, modifications in equipment & machines (when required);<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.2.3 Reporting any modifications made to equipment and machines in such format and manner as directed by the Power Plant Team Leader – Mechanical\/ Principal Power Plant Maintenance Officer – Mechanical\/ Mechanical Engineer.<\/div>\n

2.1.3 Maintenance on Major Rotating Plant<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
The Power Plant Mechanical Technician shall be able to perform all maintenance work associated with major rotating plant with a focus on Turbo-Alternators, Hydraulic Control Systems and reciprocating machines in accordance with prescribed manuals, records, technical drawings and other data being provided where relevant. The Power Plant Mechanical Technician shall:<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.3.1 Carry out preventive maintenance and repairs on rotating and reciprocating equipment; <\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.3.2 Carry out monitoring of vibrations & noise for fault identification;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.3.3 Ensure continued protection through the application of protective coatings and rebuilding worn material amongst others; <\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.3.4 Examine drawings and plans sequence of operation, applying knowledge of geometry, effects of heat, weld shrinkage, machining, and metal thickness; <\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.3.5 Carry out planned maintenance during shutdowns as well as on overhauls of Turbo-Alternators, Hydraulic Control System, rotating and reciprocating machines;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.3.6 Carry out assembly and repair work on various components including but not limited to bearings, white metal bearings, gear box seals, mounting, fans, guards, oil coolers and others;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.3.7 Install and dismantle bearings and other precision components;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.3.8 Measure bearing and other clearance on site;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.3.9 Check white metal bearings with blue marking and scrape accordingly to obtain the required clearance;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.3.10 Align various components of Turbo-Alternators, Hydraulic Control Systems, reciprocating machines as well as other major rotating plant including motors exceeding 100 kW;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.3.11 Dismantle equipment, take notes of parts and measurements and reassembles parts of major rotating plant driven by motors exceeding 100 kW after inspection and\/or repair;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.3.12 Maintain equipment under the supervision of the Original Equipment Manufacturer;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.3.13 Align (including rotary equipment), carry out inspections, replacement of parts as well as adjustments on Steam Turbines, Gas Turbines, Generators and Boilers, Diesel engines\/ compressors;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.3.14 Assist the engineer in certification of equipment;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.3.15 Boiler cleaning;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.3.16 Condenser cleaning;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.3.17 Carry out fabrication duties;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.3.18 Assist quay house first respondents for fuel bunkering; <\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.3.19 Conduct work practices in ATEX zones;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
2.1.3.20 Identify materials required to be used on jobs and request the relevant spare parts and consumable items as per the Company\u2019s policies.<\/div>\n

3. Skill Requirements<\/strong><\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
3.1 Qualification and Work Experience <\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
The Power Plant Mechanical Technician must:<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
3.1.1 Be in possession of a Higher Technician Diploma (HTD) (MQF Level 5, subject to a minimum of 60 ECTS\/ECVET credits, or equivalent ) related to Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent qualification, awarded by City & Guilds or any other recognised educational institution;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
AND<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
Have a total of 2 years\u2019 experience working as a Mechanical Fitter or Mechanical Technician in one or more of the following Industries: Power Plants, Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, Marine or heavy-duty mechanical plant machinery.  <\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
OR<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
3.1.2 Be in possession of an Advanced Diploma in Operations & Maintenance (MQF Level 4, subject to a minimum of 120 ECTS\/ECVET credits, or equivalent ), or equivalent qualification, awarded by the Malta College of Arts, Science & Technology, or any other recognised educational institution; <\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
AND<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
Have a total of 3 years\u2019 experience working as a Mechanical Fitter or Mechanical Technician in one or more of the following Industries: Power Plants, Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, Marine or heavy-duty mechanical plant machinery.  <\/div>\n

OR<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
Have successfully completed an apprenticeship\/traineeship of a minimum of one (1) year with IESC. <\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
OR<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
3.1.3 Be in possession of an Advanced Diploma in Marine Engineering (MQF Level 4, subject to a minimum of 120 ECTS\/ECVET credits, or equivalent ) or equivalent qualification, awarded by the Malta College of Arts, Science & Technology (MCAST), or any other recognised educational institution; <\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
AND<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
Have a total of 3 years\u2019 experience working as a Mechanical Fitter or Mechanical Technician in one or more of the following Industries: Power Plants, Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, Marine and heavy-duty mechanical plant machinery.<\/div>\n

OR<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
Have successfully completed an apprenticeship\/traineeship of a minimum of one (1) year with IESC. <\/div>\n

3.1.4 Be in possession of a Journeyman\u2019s Certificate (MQF Level 3, subject to a minimum of 60 ECTS\/ECVET credits, or equivalent ), or equivalent qualification, related to Mechanical Engineering, awarded by a recognised educational institution; <\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
AND<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
Have a total of 4 years\u2019 experience working as a Mechanical Fitter or Mechanical Technician in one or more of the following Industries: Power Plants, Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, Marine or heavy-duty mechanical plant machinery.  <\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
3.2 Knowledge and Skills<\/strong><\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
3.2.1 Highly organised and meticulous in his work with an eye for detail;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
3.2.2 Knowledgeable and well informed on relevant health and safety issues;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
3.2.3 Experienced and knowledgeable in the mechanical maintenance and repair of Rotating and Static Plant and other Equipment;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
3.2.4 Basic knowledge in welding, machining, sheet metal work, mechanical fitting and pipe fitting;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
3.2.5 Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
3.2.6 Knowledge of basic quality control and inspection methods;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
3.2.7 Must be medically fit for work;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
3.2.8 Must be able to work in confined spaces and must not be afraid to work at heights;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
3.2.9 Knowledgeable of relevant Health & Safety legislation;<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
3.2.10 The person carrying out the mentioned tasks above shall have a valid ATEX accredited qualification or else until the certification is obtained, work carried out in an ATEX environment shall only be carried out under supervision of a person having a valid accredited certificate.  The selected candidate shall mandatorily obtain the ATEX accredited qualification within his\/her probationary period whereby expenses related to this qualification will be paid by IESC. <\/div>\n
