Opening of New Offices in Xewkija

Last Sunday 14th March, the Hon. Minister of Finance, the Economy and Investment Tonio Fenech officially inaugurated the new District offices at Xewkija. The Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono, Enemalta's Chairman Ing. Alex Tranter and Enemalta’s CEO Ing. Karl Camilleri were also present for the event together with both current and retired Gozitan employees.

The old district offices in Victoria were too small and were located in a busy area very close to a school, which resulted in major parking problems for both customers and employees. The new offices have plenty of parking spaces and will in the future also house the 33Kv Distribution Centre, which is currently being constructed. This Distribution Centre will have a computerised Substation Control System that will permit the remote monitoring and operation of the installed equipment.  Such a system will be integrated in the Enemalta national SCADA system, operated on a 24hour basis at the Enemalta head office. The new premises were also built to meet the needs of persons with disabilities.

At the Xewkija offices there is also a centralized storage facility. To date the Corporation in Gozo used third party storage facilities to store cable drums, transformers and poles in three different scattered locations around the island. These new premises cater for this need and such ample storage means a better deployment of manpower, better time management and it’s a more cost effective solution.

The new offices at Xewkija are but one of the many projects Enemalta is investing in to provide a better service to its customers. Some of the other major projects are the new generation plant in Delimara and the inter-connector which will link Malta to Europe's energy grid.
